This year’s topic of Freie Universitaet Berlin’s Teaching Award is “Engagement and Responsibility”. Applications are open until 27th of July 2018.

Any kind of seminar or lecture, planned for the summer semester 2019, dealing with the topic of social engagement can be recommended for the prize. The teaching project should aim at depicting the university as a place capable of implementing social change. Conceivable for nomination are projects dealing with complex challenges like migration and integration, digitalization or sustainability and environmental protection in an academic way while also showing paths how engaged research can practically help to solve these problems.

During the last years, different kinds of projects have got the Teaching Award. The German-Israeli exchange project by Martin Lücke, Professor for History Didactic at the FU has been awarded in 2013. In 2014, the winning course was “Trans Pro Idee” by Rainer Haag, Professor for Chemistry at the FU and Leonhard Urner, Master student and member of the co-organizing working group. In 2015, Dr. Christoph Benzmüller received the Teaching Award for his course “Computational Metaphysics”.

The Teaching Award is announced annually with a different focus. It aims at further including top-level university research into teaching and supporting innovative learning formats. The prize is part of the university’s future concept within the national excellence initiative. It supports the research-oriented teaching (FoL).
