Institut Futur is the name given to the field of Educational Future Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. The institute grew out of the Environmental Education working area in 2000. It focuses on social-scientific future studies, the Education for Sustainable Development area of activity and learning, and research on knowledge transfer and innovation. All research and projects at Institut Futur adhere to the mission of sustainable development. At the heart of this research is the desire to use science to foster a society that allows all people to lead good, self-determined lives. Knowledge, then, must be gathered in a systematically and methodologically transparent way if we are to orient ourselves for the future and to transfer this knowledge to the broader public.
