Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin along with their jointly operated medical school Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin want to enter the Excellence Strategy, the German government’s new competition for universities, in the Universities of Excellence funding line together.
They expect that the many different subjects in the humanities, natural and social sciences, life sciences, and engineering along with the innovative power in Berlin will promote cutting-edge research and make research in Berlin even more visible internationally. During the past ten years, an increasingly comprehensive, vibrant, and diverse culture of cooperation has evolved among these institutions. There are numerous joint research projects in various constellations, as well as growing cooperation in teaching and the promotion of young talent and increased use of joint infrastructures.
On February 21, 2018, these Berlin institutions submitted a letter of intent to the German Research Foundation (DFG), indicating their planned joint application in the Universities of Excellence funding line.
