Our language offers focus on German and English. Although English is perceived as the language of science, the importance of German cannot be underestimated when undertaking a doctorate in Germany. Everyday communication in private life and research environment or dealing with local authorities can be problematic or impossible without any command in German. It also helps to integrate into the local culture and understand the ways of the people. We therefore offer courses from beginners (also see the website of our Orientation Weeks) to advanced students.
English on the other hand is generally mastered by doctoral candidates on a good level and needs to be enhanced. We are working on a new German and English course program to suit these demands of our young researchers. This will be available from winter 2010/11. Current offers can be found in our Transferable Skills Program.
