The Center for Graduate Studies (Dahlem Research School) is a comprehensive structure for excellent doctoral programs at Freie Universität. It was established with the objective of providing an institutional framework for the support and promotion of young scientists on an interdepartmental level and to imbed doctoral education in institutional policies and strategies.
In establishing Dahlem Research School, Freie Universität implements the principles on doctoral training formulated on the national (HRK/WR, 2002) as well as on the European level (Ministers’ conferences in 2003, 2005, and 2007). Furthermore, the promotion of structured doctoral programs evolving from either the university’s research focus areas (clusters, collaborative research centers, priority programs, research units) or graduate initiatives (graduate schools, research training groups, etc.) expands the cluster model of Freie Universität to enhancing the professional qualifications of young researchers and their employability.
