Simone Lampert grew up in Berlin and came of age in Flint, Michigan, where she went to high school. She moved on to study Comparative Literature at Hunter College in New York City, where she also did her teacher training in ESL and foreign language acquisition and later taught courses in expository writing. After receiving her B.A. in 1994, she pursued her graduate studies in English Literature at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York.
From 1992-2000, Simone taught ESL and German as a Foreign Language at various language schools in New York City. During that time, she was invited to spend a semester in Brazil, where she taught at Yázigi, a language school in São Luis. From 2000-2008 she lived in India, working at a private boarding school in Varanasi. After returning to Berlin in 2008, she participated in translation seminars at the Akademie für Fremdsprachen and obtained her diploma in teaching German as a Foreign Language at the Friedländer-Schule. She currently teaches German as a Foreign Language at Lingua Franca, Berlin. Simone also works as a freelance translator and has taught foreign diplomats and local politicians.
