The Total E-Quality Award has been granted to Freie Universität Berlin six times now, in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2017. This award acknowledges universities and other academic and scientific institutions for their commitment to supporting and promoting women. It is granted by the nonprofit association Total E-Quality in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The Total E-Quality Award was first granted in 1997. It is awarded to institutions from the business sector, politics, and public service, and past winners include major enterprises such as Schering AG and Deutsche Telekom AG. The award honors recipients for having a forward-looking personnel policy that is aimed at achieving equal opportunity. Since 2002, the self-assessment tool has also been applied to universities and other academic and scientific institutions.
