Project Summary:

The molecular basis of lung tissue remodeling during age-related pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

The mean age of patients diagnosed with PAH has steadily increased, reflecting a growing proportion of older patients. Cumulative evidence emerged, pointing towards an interrelation of age-related molecules and the progression of PAH. Therefore, we aim to investigate the role of TGF-β/BMPR-II signaling in “normal” aging and age-related PAH in a mouse model of premature aging, hypothesizing that an age-related increase of TGF-β levels drives vascular remodeling in the aged pulmonary circulation.
