The European Commission has opened the online consultation on the Strategic Planning for the next research and innovation framework programme Horizon Europe. Anyone with an interest in future EU research and innovation priorities is invited to contribute to its co-design until 8 September 2019.
The European Parliament and the Council have provisionally agreed on the Horizon Europe legislative packages in April 2019. Based on this agreement, a Strategic Plan is to put forward the targeted impacts for the investment in research and innovation and the priorities for the first four years of the implementation of Horizon Europe (2021-2024). It focuses in particular on Horizon Europe’s second pillar “Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness”.
The online consultation collects input from across Europe and beyond to prepare the Strategic Plan. It should spark new debates, help identify impacts and strategic policy priorities.
The results of the consultation will feed into the key event of the co-design process, the European Research and Innovation Days, which will take place in Brussels from 24 to 26 September 2019. The Strategic Plan is then to be endorsed by the next Commission towards the end of 2019.
