AiS Online Workshop "Difficult Conversations - Keeping Mentoring Relationships on Track"

Call for expression of interest open until 17 September 2021.

News from Aug 24, 2021

On 7-8 October 2021, Academics in Solidarity will organize a two-day Online Workshop "Difficult Conversations - Keeping Mentoring Relationships on Track"

In mentoring for displaced scholars and those at risk, it is not uncommon to encounter situations that cross the "boundaries" of the usual mentoring of postdocs, such as when being confronted with the mentees' personal histories and experiences of flight while preparing them for the possible precariousness of an academic career in Germany.

In this workshop, you will be supported with communication methods to deal with difficult situations in the mentoring relationship: how to deal with mutual expectations, enhancing active listening also on the emotional level, as well as how to give feedback and to deal with emotions, balancing yourself. You will be able to actively share your own experiences with the other mentors and apply the communication methods yourself in small groups.

We invite expressions of interest in participation from registered AiS mentors and host professors of the Philipp Schwartz-Initiative (PSI) by 17 September 2021. To express your interest, please send a short email to ais@fu-berlin.de, indicating your current position and institutional affiliation, mentoring status with AiS and/or role as a host professor with the PSI.
