At Freie Universität… I am the director of the Sustainability and Energy Management Unit. One of the main objectives of our team is to make topics pertaining to sustainability more visible in research, teaching, management, and on campus at Freie Universität as well as to better network all those involved. We also aim to promote concrete sustainability projects in all areas of the university.

Sustainability for me is… first of all a personal, but also an institutional attitude that is characterized by taking responsibility for a future that is worth living. But it is also a strategy that shows ways to implement the global sustainability targets adopted by the United Nations in 2015 in a wide range of areas.

What does that mean for everyday life? The first step requires critical, opportunity-oriented, and open-minded ways of thinking. Sustainability becomes concrete when it has become self-evident. For me personally, that means I do not have a car, and in everyday consumer decisions, I pay attention to buying sustainable products. For example, I prefer to eat regional, organic, and seasonal food.

When judging the submitted videos, I will pay particular attention to whether they are taking a new and inspiring look at sustainability topics and whether they demonstrate a link between the ecological, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of sustainability.
