Prof. Radoslaw Martin Cichy from the Department of Neural Dynamics of Visual Cognition in the Department of Education and Psychology has been appointed Henriette Herz Scout of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH). He describes what this opportunity means to him and how he plans to implement his new responsibilities.

From the Feodor Lynen Fellowship to the Henriette Herz Scout of the AvH - Prof. Cichy himself was at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with the support of the Foundation and now, as a Henriette Herz Scout, he can support other young scientists to have a similar experience. He said he has always liked the way the AvH provides funding, which is why he is looking forward to being part of this network.

As a Henriette Herz scout, he has the opportunity to recruit three international young scientists directly for the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience Berlin (CCNB) at Freie Universität and to make them an attractive offer in a flexible way. In the context of other funding opportunities, or even project positions, this would not be possible so quickly and easily.

He would like to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, especially with regard to increasing diversity in his field of work. Thus, the plan is to attract international female and diverse personalities to the FUB. Experience shows that not only science itself, but also individual scientists benefit greatly from a diversity of personal and scientific perspectives. "Through the special funding of the AvH, I now see a very good and easy way to pursue this goal."

For many unique and interesting young scientists, to whom the path to the FU is otherwise often closed, the AvH, through its criteria for equality and anti-discrimination, opens up new international opportunities and paths, he said. Prof. Cichy is looking forward to contributing to paving these ways from now on.

We congratulate Prof. Radoslaw Martin Cichy on his appointment as a Henriette Herz Scout and look forward to the opportunity for new international young researchers at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience Berlin (CCNB) and at FU.
