Amanda Hooper still remembers her time at FUBiS very vividly. As an undergraduate student she was a participant of FUBiS Summer Term II in 2019 and satyed in Berlin for 6 weeks. She attended the subject course Seduction and Terror: Hitler’s Germany under Dr. Robert G. Waite. The course deepened her love for history and was a perfect fit as she is now continuing to study History as Masters student at the University of Waterloo in Canada. The opportunity to learn from Dr. Waite and visit multiple sites on the topic of Nazi Germany and Holocaust, from museums to memorials, was remarkable to her. She is even keeping in touch with Dr. Waite today.
“The city is vibrant, the food is phenomenal, the transit is wonderful - overall, Berlin is incredible”, says Amanda and describes how she loved the fact that there is always something to do in Berlin (even on Sundays). She got to learn the ins and outs of the city, saw historic sites that she has been seeing only in books or on the internet and especially enjoyed seeing what is left of the Berlin Wall with friends and walking along the Spree River.
Amanda would absolutely recommend FUBiS to other students and describes the quality of education as impeccable. And of course, “the chance to meet new people from around the world and to learn more about yourself while travelling and being in school is something I think anybody would greatly benefit from.” FUBiS has given her tons of great memories and she is really looking forward to going back to Berlin as soon as possible.
FUBiS is an intensive academic program of Freie Universität Berlin through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. Every year FUBiS offers more than 60 courses - both subject and German classes.
