Cooperation with Industry

To ensure that the achievements of the academic sector also benefit industry, and in order to put academic research and knowledge to work specifically for industrial needs and requirements, Freie Universität Berlin works closely with industry. It works on behalf of industrial institutions on the one hand, while on the other, industrial partners work with scientists and scholars at Freie Universität within research alliances and individual projects. The university’s activities include contract research, particularly for the chemical and pharmaceuticals industries, along with initiation of the university’s own spin-offs, patenting and marketing of inventions, and the establishment of joint limited liability companies (GmbH) between the university and individual private companies or groups of companies.

The following overview lists industrial cooperation partners involved in research projects sponsored by external funding.

There are also other cooperative arrangements that take the form of spin-offs from Freie Universität.
