Debating the future of the internationalization strategies
The seventh event in the series of “FUB Lunch-time Debates on the Future of Higher Education Internationalization” will focus on the strategic planning of internationalization.
Having their own internationalization agenda has become an imperative for most global universities (and Freie Universität Berlin just launched its new strategy for the years 2021-2025). But in times of unsure budgets, looming political crises, climate change, maybe a pandemic and constantly changing frameworks, how impactful can a long-term strategy be? How much independence has a singular institution for implementing its plan when external funding and government regulations shape the larger picture? How can we develop internationalization by design – if it maybe all just depends on individual people and their aims and ambitions – with no chance to create strategic buy-in?
