Going Public - My Research in the Media

29.01.2020 | 16:00 - 18:00

Open Door Talk der Dahlem Research School

Early stage researchers are increasingly faced with the challenge of having to leave their “comfort zone” and go public due to a growing number of channels for distribution of results, an increasing interest in research topics, and the complexity of social challenges.

Which new communication channels are available, and which goals are they appropriate for? How do I cope with (always urgent) requests of media as newspapers regarding the topic of my doctoral research? How can I gain and/or remain in control when it comes to the presentation of my research topic? What makes my topic interesting to different audiences? Do I want to place my topic in the media, and why should I do that in the first place?

The Open Door Talk provides answers and orientation about distribution channels and support at Freie Universität. Based on real-life examples, it also explores tensions between academic freedom and personal responsibility and shows possible courses of action.
