Blogging, social media but also policy papers are possible avenues for a strategic approach to communications.
“Publish or perish” is something you will often hear while building your career in the academic world. Often this means the traditional sphere of books and academic journals. However, there are other ways and channels to establish yourself as an expert voice in the field of your focus. Building on academic work - your research and your dissertation - there are opportunities to leverage communication strategies to establish and magnify your voice. Blogging, quasi-academic/journalistic publications, and social media are possible avenues for a strategic approach to communications. Furthermore, the field of policy advice and the work in think tanks offers opportunities for reaching out and presenting research to a non-academic audience. This workshop, consisting of two parts, will introduce participants to these alternative paths of publishing research and career and profile building.
