Research under Pressure - Responses and Responsibilities
Junges Wissenschaftsforum Dahlem is a platform for junior researchers at Freie Universität and its partner institutions on the Berlin-Dahlem research campus where they can meet and discuss issues of common interest that go beyond the everyday matters of their research.
On June 14, the next event „Research under Pressure - Responses and Responsibilities“ will take place at Seminaris Conference Center (Takustraße 39, 14195 Berlin). Science and research are currently under major forms of pressure around the world. Brexit may threaten freedom of movement within the EU and right of residence for academics in Great Britain. In the USA, climate research is being obstructed and science in general called into question. Worse yet is the situation in Turkey, where thousands of academics have lost their jobs as a result of repressive government measures, or in Hungary, where the liberal Central European University is due to be closed down. What should the academic community be doing about this and how? Is it on us to be getting involved in the surrounding politics? Junges Wissenschaftsforum Dahlem will present different perspectives and host an open discussion on the issue.
