The objectives of the EU Liaison Office of Freie Universität Berlin in Brussels include increasing the visibility of research performed at Freie Universität both in European organizations and among European policy makers as well as getting researchers from the university involved as experts and consultants in European planning processes. This occurs through greater involvement in European networks, participating in events at the European level, and working in relevant committees. In addition, the EU Liaison Office provides researchers at Freie Universität with early information about research policy developments at the European level.
The EU Liaison Office advises researchers based at Freie Universität about the European framework program for research and innovation, Horizon 2020.
The office provides early information to appropriate target groups at Freie Universität with regard to new developments in European research policy and with support in developing Horizon 2020 projects, for example, in the organization of workshops with European partners.
Freie Universität maintains numerous partnerships with other European universities. The office in Brussels supports researchers from Freie Universität in identifying new European partners as well as in setting up new research projects in collaboration with European partners. Similarly, it assists students and graduates in establishing working relationships with alumni who are currently working in other European institutions.
The EU Liaison Office of Freie Universität Berlin in Brussels was set up in 2009. It has been headed by Claudia Siegel since the end of September 2015.
Freie Universität’s international network comprises seven liaison offices that offer academics from Freie Universität regional expertise and local contacts. The focus of the offices varies according to location.
