Certificate indicating type of higher education entrance qualification

Prospective students interested in commencing a degree program who do not hold a higher education entrance qualification (e.g., a German Abitur orequivalent secondary school diploma) but who have earned professional qualifications may be eligible to apply for degree programs in pharmacy and veterinary medicine at Freie Universität Berlin if certain requirements are met. You can find the relevant application deadlines on www.hochschulstart.de. Please note that the alternative application deadlines that apply to “Altabiturient*innen” (people who earned their German high school diploma prior to the current year) also apply to candidates who have professional qualifications.

Applications for the first semester in pharmacy and veterinary medicine are processed exclusively via Hochschulstart. An application to issue a certificate indicating the nature of the prospective applicant’s higher education entrance qualification (general or subject-specific) must be submitted to Freie Universität Berlin in advance.

Then please submit the application for a certificate examination for vocationally qualified persons. This can be submitted via the application portal from 01.12.2023 to 31.05.2024, stating your desired course of study.

Please note: This is a preliminary certificate examination only for vocationally (professionally) qualified persons and does not replace the application for the degree programme.

The following paperwork must be uploaded as part of the online application:

Documents	Additional information
Certificate of advanced continuing education/vocational school qualifications or Certificate of completed occupational training	including the final grade

Once the submitted documents have been reviewed, Freie Universität Berlin will issue a certificate that the applicant will then have to submit via Hochschulstart.

This must include the following details:

•  Your preferred degree program
•  Type of higher education entrance qualification
•   Date and grade of the higher education entrance qualification

Please note:

If the higher education entrance qualification is not supposed to be earned until after a subject-specific entrance exam is passed (group 3), you will first receive an invitation to the entrance examination, which is held once each year, in June. If you pass the entrance exam, the certificate will be sent to you in early July so that you can submit it to Hochschulstart for subsequent consideration with your application documents.
