Academia and Parenthood
Maintaining a work-family balance can be a challenge for academics: A university career requires utmost dedication, particularly for junior researchers in the qualification phase. How can having children and an academic career be mastered at the same time? What are the experiences of current professors and junior researchers? What characterizes family-friendly working conditions and how compatible are they with the prevailing thrust toward competition and high performance in academia? In the winter semester of 2016/17, the Junges Wissenschaftsforum Dahlem will present different perspectives on these questions and facilitate a discussion between junior researchers and representatives of Freie Universität and Charité.
