During last year's overhaul work on the second floor serious defects were discovered in the University Library's front façade. Rehabilitation is now scheduled to begin in May.
Regrettably, that will mean another period of disturbances and annoyances.
First, the construction site needs to be prepared – scaffolding is already in place. Then work on the façade can begin. In turns, parts of the façade will be secured, the windows (three at a time) will be protected with wooden boards, and then the beams and supporting structure will be sanded. Thereby, old concrete will be removed so that the steel armoring can be made ready to hold a new layer of concrete.
The construction manager has told us that there will be very considerable amounts of dust; she refrained from any predictions regarding noise.
As long as no unforeseen difficulties arise, construction work should be completed by July 2017 (last status update October 2017).
We are sorry about the inconvenience.
