About Us

The University Library comprises all of Freie Universität's libraries - the Central Library at Garystr. 39, the subject libraries and the University Archives.

The University Library provides more than 35,000 students and 2,000 academics at various locations with information, literature and services for research, teaching and studies. It provides physical and virtual learning and communication spaces to enable analog and digital encounters and exchange. As a modern, service-oriented information service provider for members of Freie Universität, it creates reliable access to data, information and knowledge - among other things by providing over 9 million media (books, e-books, journals, databases, etc.) as well as 3,500 individual and group workstations on campus.

With around 1.9 million items, the Central Library is the largest lending library at Freie Universität Berlin. It fulfills a number of overarching tasks, such as providing IT services and electronic media for all libraries at Freie Universität.
