Your abstract should not contain more than 40 lines (approximately 3000 characters). This corresponds to one page in A4 format.
The input mask always has to be opened afresh because only in this way a new session can be started. If you have bookmarked this page and try to open it from the bookmark, you will access an expired session. The situation is similar if you remain inactive for a longer period while entering your data because each session is terminated after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Here, a distinction has to be made between two cases:
1.) The document has not yet been activated: Yes, a replacement is still possible. You can upload a new file on Dissertation Online using the function
"Authors’ section" / "Additional Upload" ("Autorenbereich" / "Nachträglicher Upload").
2.) The dissertation has already been activated on our dissertations server: A replacement is only possible in justified cases (usually where legal matters are concerned). Here, the administrative effort is considerable.
OCR means Optical Character Recognition. It is a necessary condition for pdf files which will be placed on our dissertations server. If the text recognition is missing, your dissertation might possibly not be retrievable when using a full-text search.
Please upload your dissertation in the PDF format or, better still, PDF/A. The pdf files must not have any password protection nor restrictions in utilization. Besides, the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has to be working.
Furthermore the following file formats are supported (for example for supplementary material belonging to your thesis):
On the German page, the abstract is displayed in the original language of the dissertation; consequently, the English abstract is displayed here if the dissertation is written in English.
The English web page represents the “alternative language”; consequently the abstract is displayed here in German if the original language of the dissertation is English.
No, your metadata and your pdf file will first be entered in an internal area. Then the staff of the Dissertations Department will check your metadata and the pdf file to ensure that everything is formally correct and complete. You will then receive a feedback. At this point, corrections are still possible.
