Books and journal volumes marked "Magazin" or "Außenmagazin" have to be requested (item status "Mag. Bestellung" or "Closed Stack Request") (compare: library card, registration).
At the University Library, delivery of orders from the closed stacks takes 45 minutes maximum. Requests after 18:00 are delivered only on the next opening day. Items from the remote stacks (Außenmagazin) are delivered only on the next opening day about noon.
Items that are waiting to be picked up will be held available for loan for five opening days at the circulation desk / for ten days in the reading room. The precise date is indicated in your Primo user account.
Items that are out on loan can be reserved. When they are available for loan, you will be informed.
Items in open-shelf areas such as the open stacks or the textbook collection should be retrieved from the shelves by the users. According to the shelf number indicated on the library portal Primo, you can find the item and take it to the circulation desk in order to have it checked out. The open stacks are accessible Monday through Friday from 09:00 through 20:00.
The loan period is four weeks (two weeks in the University Library Reading Room). With the exception of loans from the textbook collection and the open journal stacks, loan periods can be extended.
Loan period extensions ("renewals") can be managed by users themselves in their user accounts or can be requested by telephone at this number: (030) 838-522 65. After a maximum period of 25 weeks, items have to be presented at the circulation desk.
Before the loan period ends, a reminder e-mail is sent to the user as a service of the Library System.
For interlibrary loans, the maximum loan period is usually eight weeks.
Outside opening hours, the book drops at the main entrance (Garystr. 39) are open for returns.
You can return items in any Freie Universität library, regardless of where they were taken out – exluding inter-library loans, which have to be returned at the University Library.
