Dahlem Research School

As the center for junior researchers, Dahlem Research School (DRS) has established an overarching framework for structured graduate education at Freie Universität Berlin. It supports outstanding junior researchers working on interdisciplinary research themes either within one of its doctoral degree programs or the DRS Postdoc Fellowship Program.

Enhancing quality graduate education Dahlem Research School provides research training and professional development opportunities to its researchers at every stage of their graduate careers.

Professional Development Program

The Professional Development Program is based on the broader conception of doctoral education that Training, Coaching and Mentoring will be relevant to future careers.  

Our offerings include workshops, seminars and discussion panels and focus on the following two qualification components:

  1. Transferable Skills Training enhancing Academic Performance and Management Competencies
  2. Career Development.

Other Resources Offered by DRS

  • Through our competitive DRS Postdoc Fellowship Program financial support is available to postdoctoral researchers.
  • The Welcome Website for international junior researchers provides useful advice and information on all non-academic issues relevant to a research stay in Berlin. We also encourage our newly admitted doctoral candidates to attend our Orientation Weeks in September.
  • Junior researchers are invited to subscribe to our Newsletter in English or German - see CONTACT on Professional Development Program start page.
  •  Our Open Door Lectures address all junior researchers of Freie Universität.To find out more about current Open Door Lectures, last minute places in workshops etc. junior researchers who are not in one of our doctoral programs may subscribe to our DRS Open Newsletter - see CONTACT on Professional Development Program start page.
