CALL FOR APPLICATIONS (DRS-COFUND-2013) - this call is now closed

Starting in 2011, Dahlem Research School has launched a fellowship program for postdoctoral researchers with the aim to integrate them into the university’s research networks at an early phase in their career. Consistent with the university’s institutional strategy, its purpose is to reinforce the international dimension of Freie Universität’s research by supporting highly-qualified postdocs from abroad.

The COFUND Program – co-financed by the Marie Curie program of the European Union – provides funding for outstanding international postdoctoral fellows to conduct their own research project in one of the university’s Excellence Programs. Postdoctoral researchers from all nationalities other than German with a maximum of 6 years postdoc experience are eligible, however, candidates may not have lived in Germany for more than 6 months within the 24 months prior to the application deadline. Each research fellowship is awarded for 15 months. At the end of the funding period, COFUND fellows are expected to apply for further funding for a subsequent research project at Freie Universität Berlin.

Funding and Support

The fellows will be employed via full employment contracts according to the current collective agreement for the public sector of Berlin, carrying social benefits such as pension and social security, but also subject to normal taxes. In addition to their salary they will receive

  • a monthly mobility allowance
  • a one-off travel allowance
  • a monthly research allowance
  • a fully funded intensive German course
  • a tailor-made professional development program delivered by Dahlem Research School.
