Quality of support for startups in the “Gründungsradar” study conducted in 2014 by Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft, Freie Universität Berlin ranks sixth nationwide among major higher education institutions with more than 15,000 students. With the highest possible score it shone in the evaluation of "entrepreneurial activity" that measures the "output of the efforts understaken in start-up support".

Freie Universität Berlin holds 54 patent families.


A nationwide leader in raising external funding from the following aid programs (including the projects at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin that are supported by profund through a cooperative initiative):

Funding totaling more than 30 million euros since 2007; high success rate in acting as an intermediary for follow-up financing by investors: spinoffs from Freie Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin have secured 37 rounds of financing via the High-Tech Gründerfonds and the ProFIT program operated by Investitionsbank Berlin.
