The internal programs at Freie Universität that provide funding and support to junior scholars and scientists are aimed at various different groups of candidates who have completed their doctoral studies and embarked on career paths leading to professorship positions.
The Research Commission is a joint commission of the Academic Senate and the Executive Board of Freie Universität Berlin that serves to provide internal support for research. Allocation of funding is intended to enable the development of new research projects and support junior scholars and scientists in their academic careers.
The DRS HONORS Fellowship Program offers up to 10 fellowships annually, each lasting 12 months. It is aimed at candidates who have submitted their doctoral thesis in one of the DRS doctoral programs. To apply, candidates are expected to propose an independently developed research project that will be supported by their prospective scientific advisors at Freie Universität Berlin. Applications that include collaborative research with existing or potential partner institutions are strongly encouraged.

The Dahlem Postdoc Fellowship program of the Dahlem Research School and the Center for Research Strategy addresses postdocs of all nationalities and disciplines. The Dahlem Postdoc Fellowships enables them to carry out innovative projects in a stimulating research environment in one of the Excellence Programs or Focus Areas of the Freie Unviersität Berlin. The research projects are proposed by the fellows on a research area of their own choice, based on the research fields of the participating Excellence Programs and Focus Areas. The program is designed to facilitate the integration of the fellows in joint research projects and to stimulate new co-operations in their research fields. The fellows are supported to submit a grant application at a national or international funding organization by the end of the program for a subsequent project at the Freie Universität.

"ProFiL. Professionalisierung für Frauen in Forschung und Lehre: Mentoring – Training – Networking" is an inter-university program for highly qualified female scholars and scientists on their path to becoming professors.
