Photograph and Video Permission

Photograph, film and video recording within the Philological Library must be applied for in writing and authorized.

The written permission for taking shots of this kind must be presented to the library employees unprompted upon entering the library or upon request.

To receive permission, arrange a date as well as receive information about resulting costs, please send an application by e-mail at least one week before the desired date with the following information:

  • Content and motif of the planned shots,
  • reason for choosing the Philological Library,
  • client,
  • planned usage,
  • desired date for taking the shots,
  • approximate duration of taking the shots,
  • technology to be used,
  • size of the team

Furthermore, publication of recordings of any kind (e.g. online, incl. non-commercial purposes) require explicit permission from Freie Universität Berlin (depending on competence: Press and Communication (PC) or the Technical Department).

Please note:

Photographs, film and video recordings are only permitted in exceptional cases and generally not during operating hours, in other words from Mon.-Fri. before 9:00 am and after 10:00 pm, Sat.-Sun. before 10:00 am and after 8:00 pm.

Any recordings that take place outside of operating hours will be supervised by site security. The applicant is responsible for carrying the costs incurred hereby.

Usage of flash, tripod, spotlights and any type of audio recording is generally prohibited during operating hours.

Set-up work for interviews, film scenes, photographs etc. can only be started outside of operating hours.

Interfering with library inventory or workstation equipment (e.g. emptying shelves, repositioning books, dismantling terminals on the counters or user stations is not permitted.

Recording persons who are not involved (e.g. library users and employees) is not permitted.
