Germany and Russia/USSR since the late 19th century in comparison

On March 30-31 Freie Universität Berlin together with Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) will be holding an international conference themed “Cultures of Security since the late 19th century. Germany and Russia/USSR in comparison” at RSUH in Moscow. The conference was organized by Prof. Arnd Bauerkämper from Freie Universität and Dr. habil. Natalia Rostislavleva from RSUH with financial support from the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Following the introductory part on perceptions and concepts of security, the 30 conference participants from Russia, Germany, France, Sweden, and Switzerland will discuss the period of insecurity between the two World Wars and the developments in the security culture after 1945, supranational organizations, and cross-border communication, as well as security culture in Russia and Germany under the influence of the new terrorism since 2001.
As part of the conference, further negotiations between Freie Universität and RSUH on mutual academic projects in the area of security culture will take place.
