During the closing week of the German-Brazilian year "Germany + Brazil 2013-14", the conference "Humanities and Social Sciences: in the game or offside?" will be taking place in Sao Paulo. It is jointly organized by Freie Universität Berlin, the Centro Brasileiro de Planejamento e Análise (CEBRAP), the Ruhr Universities and the Goethe-Institut Sao Paulo. From a German-Brazilian perspective, the conference will be exploring the current scientific debate on the significance of the humanities and social sciences in the 21st century, their relevance for solving global challenges, and future funding possibilities. Participating professors of Freie Universität Berlin include: Prof. Joachim Küpper, head of the Dahlem Humanities Center, Prof. Sérgio Costa of the Institute for Latin American Studies and speaker of the Brazil Research Center, as well as Prof. Luciana Villas Bôas of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and currently, Alexander-von-Humboldt scholar at Freie Universität. The conference will be taking place on May 30 at the Gothe-Institut Sao Paulo.
