Freie Universität has recently extended its cooperation with the largest Chinese funding organization for students, the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for another three years. In Beijing both sides signed an agreement extending their cooperation through 2014. Beginning next year, in addition to scholarships for doctoral students, there will also be fellowships available for postdoctoral researchers as well as other researchers from China to spend a period of time doing research at Freie Universität. Each year the CSC programs enable thousands of young Chinese researchers to earn their doctorates at universities outside China. Since 2008 more than110 Chinese graduate students have selected Freie Universität as a destination for their doctoral training, making Freie Universität the most important German university as well as one of the ten most popular in the world for Chinese students being supported by CSC programs.
