Berlin Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT)

The Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT) is a cooperative initiative that brings clinicians, biologists, and engineers together. The program represents a joint activity between Humboldt-Universität and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin along with Technische Universität and Freie Universität and non-university institutions within the region.

The research activities at this graduate school focus on the guided differentiation of cells in order to simulate endogenous tissue regeneration for treatment of acute and chronic disease. This represents a challenge to traditional strategies of therapeutic development and confronts traditional educational concepts with new requirements: Biologists and engineers work together to develop innovative combinations of cells, medications, and biological materials from conventional implants. These kinds of activities require the participation of engineers who understand complex biological processes as well as biologists who grasp the technical components of these therapeutic approaches. Ultimately, the practicing physician will face completely new implants and therapies for which he or she has thus far received no training.

The graduate school is closely associated with the Berlin-Brandenburg Centre for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT).
