The Dahlem Research School (DRS) functions as a center for the promotion of junior scholars and scientists. It is responsible for developing strategies to promote doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at Freie Universität. The Dahlem Research School also serves as the framework that encompasses the outstanding structured doctoral programs offered by Freie Universität.

  • Dahlem Research School (DRS) is the university’s center for the advancement of excellence in graduate education. By promoting research in interdisciplinary and international alliances it offers structured doctoral degree programs in a wide range of subject areas as well as a postdoctoral fellowship program for outstanding junior researchers. Enhancing personal and professional development opportunities for their doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows Dahlem Research School is dedicated to excellence by providing the best educational experience possible at every stage of their graduate careers.

  • To support and promote quality graduate education Dahlem Research School has developed a quality management system. DRS has established university-wide standards for the highest quality of graduate education by setting goals, basic regulations and guidelines of excellence as well as best practice measures for structured doctoral programs. It offers highly competitive, structured doctoral programs and supports established graduate schools and research training groups as well as new initiatives.

  • Junior researchers at DRS benefit from an excellent training and educational environment where they can develop their full potential and achieve their academic goals. The Professional Development program consists of two core elements: Transferable Skills Training and Career Development. The Transferable Skills Training program aims to enhance academic performance skills beyond the academic training provided by the doctoral program’s disciplinary curriculum. Career development resources include three activities: Training, Coaching and Mentoring. Furthermore DRS offers a Grant Program to assist their junior researchers with funding opportunities for advancement of their research. 

  • Dahlem Research School provides comprehensive support services to its junior and postdoctoral researchers. International young researchers and postdoctoral fellows can find useful advice and information on all academic and non-academic issues relevant to their stay on the Welcome Center website.

  • In line with the university’s objective toward academic excellence for graduate education as stated in the future concept of the „International Network University"Dahlem Research School ensures academic quality for their programs and provides a comprehensive, integrative infrastructure for high-quality training and  operational support for their outstanding  doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows.
