Focal Points in the Research Activities at Freie Universität Berlin

Since 2008, Freie Universität has been intensifying its focus on research – a focus that already enjoys a high international profile and makes the university competitive in its field – as part of the implementation of the “International Network University” future concept and the projects initiated under the Excellence Competition.
In connection with this heightened profile, the university’s existing strengths and potential are being identified and systematically developed within and across a broad range of disciplines. The new developments include new Focus Areas at Freie Universität. In addition, several Clusters of Excellence and Graduate Schools at the university received distinction in the Excellence Initiative, a factor that is having a sustained structuring effect on the university’s efforts in this field.
