Thijs Benschop was born in the Netherlands and studied Econometrics and European Studies at Maastricht University. He completed his M.Sc. in Statistics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and is a doctoral candidate in the International Research Training Group „High Dimensional Non Stationary Time Series”, preparing his dissertation on adaptive regime-switching models for energy markets.
He taught computer science at Kyzylorda State University in Kazakhstan and Energy Economics at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
His current research focuses on volatility modeling in European markets for CO2 emission certificates.
