Dr. Julia Bertschik



Dr. Bertschik studied Germanic Philology (Germanistik), Film/Theatre, and Art History at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Freie Universität Berlin. Since completing her doctorate on the historical novels of Wilhelm Raabe and her post-doctoral dissertation (Habilitation) on the discourse of fashion in German, Austrian and Swiss literature, she has worked as Associate Professor for German Studies at universities in Beijing (China), Lodz (Poland), Oxford (Ohio, USA), Klagenfurt (Austria), and at FU Berlin. She is the author of the books Mode und Moderne and Poetische Wiedergänger and a contributing author to the collection of articles entitled Baustelle Kultur, which is part of an on-going research project on the relationship between the Berlin movement of ‘Neue Sachlichkeit’ (New Objectivity) and Austrian writers in the period 1918-1933.
