In the sciences, women make up far less than 50% of the student body. Initiatives such as Girls’ Day and the MINT Initiative were created in order to raise the percentage of female students in these areas.
One special example in the Department of Mathematics is the Eva Wolzendorf Scholarship. Ms. Eva Wolzendorf endowed her fortune to Freie Universität Berlin on the condition that it be used to support German students of mathematics, female and male.
In 2007, a set of regulations aimed at promoting women was added to the general regulations on the awarding of this scholarship.
