IT Security
The German Federal Office for Information Technology Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik; "BSI") defines IT security as the "state in which the risks existing in relation to the use of information technology due to hazards are reduced to an acceptable level by appropriate measures. Hence, IT security is a state in which confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and information technology are protected by appropriate measures."
In nearly all areas of the Freie Universität Berlin, maintaining operability of the core processes is associated with reliable and, in particular, secure information technology. Various risks, such as viruses, targeted attacks or technical failure, might, in the worst case, endanger the accomplishment of the aggregate university's mission. In order to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data, an analysis of security-critical incidents and initiation and implementation of appropriate measures at the Freie Universität Berlin are integrated in a permanent cross-departmental security process.
