Project Summary

Maintenance and regeneration of skeletal muscle rely on the activation of tissue-specific stem cells, a function that is compromised with high age. We plan to investigate the age-related changes in the specific signaling microenvironment these stem cells require for proper function in normal, healthy aging as well as in patients suffering from muscular dystrophy. This might provide new access points to ameliorate age-related muscle loss.
