Project Summary

We strive to understand how individuals, who author medical guidelines, anchor different interests in medical guidelines. Given that evidence-based guidelines are an accepted means of efficient resource allocation in health care and that guidelines are, sometimes, seen as safeguards of patient interests, guideline authors enjoy an important institutional mandate to act in the best interests of scientific evidence, the stability of the health care system and patients. Therefore, we are interested exactly in how guideline authors balance this mandate with the different interests that they have both as individuals and as representatives of important stakeholders.
