The statutory prohibitions on working pursuant to the provisions on protection for expectant and new working mothers and the rules on parental leave apply directly to students who are also employees.
Student employees of Freie Universität Berlin who have any questions can contact the Dual Career & Family Service, the employee council for student employees, the personnel office responsible for them, and the Occupational Health Service.
Students (mothers and fathers) who take care of their own children after their birth are entitled to parental benefits (Elterngeld). It is not necessary to interrupt their study programs. Parental benefits amount to at least 300 euros per month for parents who are not gainfully employed. Student employees' additional earnings may increase the amount of parental benefits.
