Founded in 1948, Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) is a leading research institutiono and one of Germany’s eleven Universities of Excellence. For foreign scientists such as scholarships holders of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Freie Universität Berlin is the university of preference and among international students it is the most attractive university in Germany.
Freie Universität is offering around 200 degree programs for ca. 30,000 students (20% international students), of whom 4500 are PhD students (33% international).
The Beijing Office was opened in 2007 for promoting study and research at Freie Universität Berlin and in China. It facilitates and initiates collaboration in teaching and research, and attracts Chinese PhD students and Postdocs do to research at Freie Universität in the framework of the joint program with the China Scholarship Council (FUB-CSC Program). It's also an information center for counselling and supporting Chinese and German students as well as scholars, particuarly from partner institutions. The establishment of an alumni network provides connections for future academic carreers.
The Beijing Office belongs to the Center for International Cooperation at Freie Universit'ät Berlin, and is part of the university's concept of an International Network University.
