Information about PhD & PostDoc vacancies and how to apply for an acceptance letter

Freie Universität Berlin Cairo Office supports Egyptian PhD and PostDoc candidates in their search for a suitable supervisor at our university. An acceptance letter from a professor is a pre-condition to apply for a DAAD scholarship (GERLS or GERSS ). If you are interested in any of the research projects listed below, please follow these steps:

1. Please contact our office first cairo@zedat.fu-berlin.de  and ask for the detailed information about the program you would like to apply to.

2. If the offered position meets your own research interests and you have fulfilled all the necessary requirements, please apply with the following documents for an acceptance letter:

  • A motivation letter including a personal statement on your academic background, research experience and career goals. This letter is very important for your application and you should take time to explain your research interests in your own words and demonstrate how you would fit to the offered position.
  • Brief description of the research proposal ( max. 2 pages).
This description is only necessary if the offered position does not state a clearly defined project yet.
  • Bachelor and Master certificate (if available) or transcript of records for PhD candidates. PhD certificate and a short summary ( max. 2 pages) of the PhD thesis for PostDoc candidates.
  • CV with list of publications and an indication of two academic referees with contact details.
  • Proof of English or German language knowledge.
Please send all documents in a single pdf file to cairo@zedat.fu-berlin.de. Deadline for applications is the September 04, 2015.

3. If your application for an acceptance letter was successful, you are encouraged to apply independently for a scholarship. Our office is pleased to support you in this process.
