Freie Universität Berlin is one of eleven German Universities of Excellence selected in the German government‘s national excellence initiative. As an International Network University, it has seven offices abroad located in Beijing, Brussels, Cairo, New Delhi, New York, Moscow, and São Paulo.
The EU Liaison Office is a service unit for researchers at Freie Universität Berlin and serves as a contact point and interface between the university and European institutions and actors in research and innovation. The EU Liaison Office seeks to increase the visibility of Freie Universität Berlin at the European level, its outstanding research in many fields, and the smart minds behind it.
Accordingly, one of the major tasks of the EU Liaison Office is to promote the results of innovative research at Freie Universität Berlin and its priorities for future research. For this purpose, the EU Liaison Office supports networking between researchers of Freie Universität Berlin and Brussels-based actors and EU institutions engaged in research and innovation. It constantly monitors EU policy making and informs researchers at Freie Universität Berlin about recent political developments related to EU research policy and funding. Furthermore, the EU Liaison Office encourages researchers to actively participate in the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the EU research funding programs.
