Technical Requirements & Formatting
Software requirements: You will need Adobe Reader 8 or higher to complete the forms. Do not use Preview (Mac OS X’s application) to fill out the forms. There is a known problem of compatibility; PDF forms filled out in Preview will not display all form data when opened in Adobe programs.
Download the application forms, save them by including your name in the file names (e.g., Miller_application.pdf, Miller_evaluation, Miller_reference etc.).
Type the information requested. Handwritten applications will not be accepted. If additional space is needed, attach (a) separate sheet (s).
The length of the research proposal may not exceed 10 pages, the bibliography may be one to two pages, i.e. altogether 12 pages on letter size or A4 format, double-spaced, 12-point, standard margins.
File size: The file size may not exceed 10 MB. If you are having problems submitting your application due to file size, try reducing the resolution of scanned documents.
Merging files: Compile the necessary documents in one file named lastnameappBP2017 (e.g. millerappBP2017.pdf). Please use either the software PDF24 Creator, a free trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro or Nitro PDF to avoid compatibility problems. If scans of transcripts are included, check the file sizes, reduce size if necessary.
SECTION I: Documents to be prepared and submitted by the applicant
Application Form: Give yourself enough time to prepare the material. If additional space is needed for completing sections in the form, attach (a) separate sheet(s).
Composing a Research Proposal for a fellowship application is a demanding process. Allow yourself time to brainstorm, draft, and revise your work. Follow our instructions.

Publicity Survey: Please help us improve our publicity and complete the survey (File 3).
SECTION II: Documents to be submitted by the referees and language evaluators
References: Applicants are required to have three letters of reference submitted on their behalf. Forward the reference form and copies of your research proposal to three scholars (including your advisor) and ask them to kindly submit their reference via email to: bprogram[at]zedat.fu-berlin.de by December 1. For postdoc applicants: Interfolio dossiers are welcome.
Language Competence Evaluation: Applicants are required to demonstrate sufficient language skills to complete the project. If more than one language is relevant for your project, submit a language evaluation for each of the languages. Forward the form and information on your research to a department faculty member qualified to evaluate your language skills and ask them to kindly submit their evaluation via email to: bprogram[at]zedat.fu-berlin.de by December 1.
