Registration as an exchange student at Freie Universität Berlin is only valid for the length of the awarded scholarship or program. Students registered as program students are not allowed an indefinite study period.
Those interested in continuing their studies at Freie Universität Berlin or in pursuing a degree must comply with separate admission procedures and admission deadlines. Detailed information on admission requirements is available at: Info-Service of Freie Universität Berlin.
The sooner you register, the faster you will receive your student ID card, which entitles you to various price reductions: in the canteens (Mensa), most museums, theaters, some cinemas and sport facilities, etc.
In order to get registered as an exchange student with Freie Universität Berlin as soon as possible, we advise you to bring all necessary documents with you.
proof of your ERASMUS grant from your home university
proof of health insurance (Krankenversicherungsnachweis)
the receipt from the paid Sozialgebühren and Semesterticket
a valid passport (with visa if required)
Prior to the beginning of the next semester you will receive a "Rückmeldeaufforderung" by mail.
A transfer order for the payment of the University Social Fees and the Semesterticket is attached to this "Rückmeldeaufforderung." The attached transfer order is partly filled out.
Please fill in your name, the name of your bank, and your bank account number, and give the transfer order to your bank.
Upon receipt of your payment, the matriculation office will automatically send you your student ID (incl. "Semesterticket") for the next semester.
Shortly before you finish your studies at Freie Universität Berlin, you have to go through the "Exmatrikulation" process which is needed for a renewed registration at any German university and for the refund of the semester ticket.
Please hand in the application form for exmatriculation, duly filled in, at the Info-Service, Iltisstrasse 1.
