From Verdi to Liszt and Mäntyjärv, then on to Big Band Sounds

End-of-semester concerts by Collegium Musicum on January 31 and February 2, 4, 16, and 17, 2018

№ 002/2018 from Jan 12, 2018

The Collegium Musicum of Freie Universität and Technische Universität Berlin is giving five concerts at the end of the semester. The symphony orchestra, together with the full choir, will present Giuseppe Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" at the Berlin Philharmonic on January 31. On February 2, the chamber orchestra will perform Franz Liszt's 2nd Piano Concerto and Jean Sibelius's Symphony No. 1 at the Heiligen Kreuz Kirche in Kreuzberg. On February 4, in a program entitled "A-Cappella for a Rainy Winter Day," the chamber choir will sing works from Monteverdi to Mäntyjärvi in the Kirche zum Guten Hirten in Friedenau. The Big Band of the Collegium Musicum will give two concerts: on February 16 and 17 in Kunstfabrik Schlot.

The Collegium Musicum is composed of members of Freie Universität and Technische Universität Berlin. Currently almost 400 students and other members of the two universities perform in one or more of the five ensembles: full choir, chamber choir, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, and the Berlin Uni Bigband. The concerts in the Philharmonie at the end of the semester are a semi-annual highlight, both for members of the full choir and the orchestra and the audience. This year a total of 270 members of the choir and orchestra will be performing in this year's winter concert in the Philharmonie.
