146 Participants from 20 Countries

№ 148/2017 from Jun 02, 2017

The International Summer and Winter University at Freie Universität Berlin started its new term on Whitsunday with 146 participants from 20 countries. During the six-week term, the students will attend German language classes and other subjects. Most of the students are from the United States, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the People's Republic of China. The term will run through July 15.

The students participating in FUBiS can choose courses from among various subjects taught in English, as well as German language classes, or a combination of the two. There are seminars dealing with various topics, such as the history of Germany during National Socialism, the European Union, German literature and culture; as well as European art history and the history of architecture.

For all the FUBiS courses, Freie Universität Berlin awards credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) system. The academic program is augmented with field trips including a boat trip on the Spree River, a street art tour, a walk through the colorful district of Kreuzberg, and a tour of the Reichstag. In addition, the participants can also take day-long excursions and weekend trips to Lübeck, Dresden, and Leipzig.

The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and in 2007 a winter term was added. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad through its Quality Improvement Program (QUIP). During 2016 a total of 652 international students came to Freie Universität Berlin through FUBiS.
